YWA’s 2017 Senior Exhibition is the third exhibition of original artworks produced by local young artists aged between 14-19.
With a record number of entries this year, the exhibition both celebrates and applauds
the outstanding individual talent of today’s young wimbledon artists.
This year’s Best of Show and other award winners are truly amazing artistic pieces!
They highlight not only the depth of meaning within their content. They also demonstrate the high levels of artistic skill and eclectic mix of media used in their production.
Best of Show award of £200 went to Serena Shakshir from Wimbledon High School for her stunning and beautiful painting of Dandelion seed heads floating across the paper.
This year’s YWA Highly Commended award of £100 went to Muniza Fazal from Ricards Lodge High School for her thought provoking piece about the infant refugee found dead on the beach.
The six Commended award winners who each received £50 were Kiro Baker from Wimbledon College, Laura Sigee from Wimbledon High School, Aydan Asgarova from Ricards Lodge High School, Felix Chadwick-Hicksted and Enrico La-Corte both from Kings College and for the first time an Independent entry winner Sofia Schartner.
YWA’s aims are to promote and support all Young Wimbledon Artists. It offers schools, colleges & academies in Merton, local young artists & groups of young artists who live in the borough a platform to have their work exhibited in a professional gallery environment as part of its annual shows. It also awards prizes in the form of cash vouchers from our local art suppliers that can be used to by materials to support their artistic journey.
